Toyota Aims for Texas Fightback

Toyota is determined to fight for victory this weekend as the World Endurance Championship (WEC) heads to the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

The Toyota GAZOO Racing team is aiming for its first victory in Texas and to improve on its performance in Mexico earlier this month where it finished third and fourth.
Team president Hisatake Murata said the team was pushing to get a better result after fighting hard and never giving up in Mexico.

“The drivers are very motivated to get both cars on the podium and win races again,” Mr Murata said. “The whole team has this fighting spirit so we go to Austin with big hopes.”
Toyota drivers Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi finished on the podium in Austin 12 months ago while their #7 TS050 Hybrid teammate José María López will experience the circuit for the first time.

The #8 TS050 Hybrid will be raced by Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima with Stéphane Sarrazin stepping in for Anthony Davidson who has withdrawn for this race due to personal reasons.

This Texas round reverts to a daytime race after three years as a day-night contest, presenting a challenge for the team and drivers with heat and humidity expected to be at their highest soon after the midday race start.

After Austin, the WEC season moves to Asia for the final three races in Japan, China and Bahrain, which will decide the outcome of the World Championship titles.
Toyota motorsport: In 2017, Toyota marks the 60th anniversary of its first international motorsport entry (and the first by a Japanese car manufacturer), when it contested the 1957 Round Australia Trial. This is why many people consider Australia to be the birthplace of Toyota motorsport.

Today, Toyota contests the FIA-sanctioned World Rally Championship, World Endurance Championship which features the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the gruelling Dakar Rally. Closer to home, the Toyota 86 Racing Series seeks to develop the talent of tomorrow as Australia’s premier grassroots circuit-racing category. Toyota also supports the Neal Bates Motorsport team in the Australian Rally Championship.
